Sadhana Das ★ Literary Fiction · Travel Writing · Essays 3 seals earned Hi folks, what I write, it's upto you to find out. I roam around the realm of 'Art of Noticing' and sometimes it might be ranting about the doom days of fashion industry and my favourite book-reviews.Sandeep Hasurkar Nonfiction · Essays · Columns · +1 1 seal earned *Bio-note *
Sandeep Hasurkar is an ex-investment banker, columnist, and author. He has worked as a financier and policy advisor with leading financial institutions, advising governments on financial and infrastructure reforms, and conceptualising and leading pioneering projects for over three decades.
In 1993, he was part of a team that advised the Government of India as India opened up the power sector to foreign investment. In the same year, he led the IPO of the first public sector bank to list after nationalisation. He was also involved in the country’s first housing mortgage securitisation and other innovations in financial sector reform. Over subsequent decades, he was involved with initiatives relating to the policy and development of Special Economic Zones, waterways, the interlinking of rivers, roads, ports, power, renewables, and other infrastructure.
He wrote his first book, “Never Too Big To Fail", on the collapse of IL&FS, which was published by Rupa Publications, in 2020. IL&FS was the premier and largest project developer and infrastructure financier in India, whose sudden and unexpected collapse in 2018 led to a deep crisis in financial markets and the economy. Drawing on his experience of long years working with IL&FS, his book provided revelatory insights into how and why the collapse happened, and beyond evident management failure, it also identified systemic and stakeholder shortcomings that led to the crisis developing unchecked. Critically acclaimed and widely discussed at government and regulatory levels, it sparked wide-ranging reforms in governance, policy, and regulation of the financial and infrastructure sectors.
His latest book, “Dance of the Elephant Walk of the Dragon", on India and China, (also published by Rupa) takes a look at the past, present, and future of the economic development of these two Asian giants. It presents their stories through not only the traditional disciplines of economics and finance but also a multidisciplinary lens to better explain their trajectories and context. This subject was meant to be the subject of his research thesis for a doctoral programme, even enrolling at IIT Bombay, before he reached the conclusion that a book for the general reader would serve a larger purpose and who, like him, may have an unaddressed curiosity about the India-China economic growth stories. The book is written in engaging and non-technical language, even while it has been extensively researched and referenced.
His columns with CNBCTV18 and MoneyControl on infrastructure, environment, financial markets, regulation, and governance have been widely appreciated for their deep insight, candour, and transparency. He also serves as a director on the boards of a few renewable energy firms.
When he is not commenting on developments in the financial sector and the economy and writing columns and books, he likes to escape to national parks and spend time in the forests in reflection and writing, even as he tries to make sense of the financial jungle that he comes from and its often unique flora and fauna.Saurin Parikh Fiction · Essays · Journalism · +2 2 seals earned While I have written some short-form fiction, my writing work largely falls under the buckets of finance and tech.
